Devon Regular is a contemporary artist born in the heart of Newfoundland. His bold brush strokes and unconventional colour choices comes together to create an impressionistic style that is boldly his own. Paintings created by Devon can be seen in the personal collections of people across the globe, including across Canada, throughout the United States, and even in salons within the United Kingdom.
Art has always been a part of Devon’s life, so much so that his own mother jokes about him being born with a paintbrush in hand. His art explores expansive themes spanning across personal reflection and lessons learned through life and philosophy. No matter what the piece may be, Devon strives to add beauty and joy to every stroke of the brush. Since 2022, Devon’s home studio can be found nestled in the whimsical city of St. John’s, Newfoundland. He also frequents the St. John’s Farmer’s Market as a member of the community to sell his work in person.
Growing up, and through most of my adult life, I have struggled with perfectionism. Garbage Art is a playful series I created as rebellion against perfectionism. Art has no rules, but many people like to pretend that it does. Because of my struggles with perfectionism, I used to believe there were rules to art.
The Garbage Art series is an artistic style that I have developed throughout my entire life, and this series is an exploration of practicing art freely without restriction or self-criticism. It is an expression of true authenticity with a bit child-like wonder. It is celebrating joy, while rebelling against restrictions to self expression.
My art is the expression of trying to understand life and to see the beauty in every aspect of it. When somebody looks at my art, I want them to get lost in the colours and see something beautiful. Whether that painting is of a bumblebee, or inspired by something much more macabre, I want to remind people that there is beauty in every aspect of life.
